Scranton Girls Rock empowers girls and gender-expansive youth through music, art, and mentorship. We foster confidence, creativity, and leadership in a safe, inclusive space where self-expression flourishes and drives positive change.

Scranton Girls Rock is building a braver, louder, more connected Scranton... one song at a time.

We’re a youth-centered, community-driven organization that uses music, art, and mentorship to uplift girls, trans youth, non-binary youth, and gender-expansive young people in Scranton and the surrounding area.

Through our summer camp, workshops, and creative programs, we create inclusive, healing-centered spaces where youth ages 8–17 can express themselves, take creative risks, and grow into bold artists, compassionate collaborators, and empowered leaders.

At Scranton Girls Rock, we believe music is more than performance—it’s a way to tell your story, find your voice, and build lasting community. Our programs center young people who haven’t always had access to safe, affirming creative spaces—and give them room to be loud, real, and proud.

💡 Our curriculum blends:

  • 🎤 Songwriting, storytelling, and live performance

  • 🎨 Creative expression and identity exploration

  • 💬 Peer collaboration and confidence-building

  • 🌍 Cultural appreciation and youth-led leadership

Participants form bands, write original songs, and perform for a live audience—all while being supported by a team of mentors, artists, and volunteers who celebrate their uniqueness and lift them up every step of the way.

And while our roots are local, our vision is global.
After our first powerful year of programming, we’re proud to be pending membership with the Girls Rock Camp Alliance—a worldwide network of women-centered organizations using music as a tool for liberation, connection, and youth empowerment.

That means Scranton Girls Rock is not only growing here—it’s becoming part of something much bigger.

Scranton Girls Rock isn’t just about music—it’s about creating a future where every young person feels powerful in their voice, supported in their truth, and connected to something beyond themselves.

From big-picture planning to behind-the-scenes support, it takes all of us to make this movement sing.

Why It Matters—for Everyone

Our programs are designed for youth—but their impact reaches everyone.

By age 8, many girls and gender-diverse kids already start to lose confidence. They speak up less. They take fewer risks. They start shrinking to fit into boxes they never chose.

But when we offer creative spaces built on trust, mentorship, and self-expression?
Everything changes.

Research shows:

  • 🎤 Youth in Girls Rock programs show increased confidence, collaboration, and self-worth after just one week (Girls Rock Camp Alliance case studies).

  • 🧠 Arts-based programs significantly improve mental health, resilience, and belonging—especially for marginalized youth (SAGE Journals, 2017).

  • 💡 Creative mentorship leads to higher school engagement and community participation (National Endowment for the Arts, 2020).

And we’ve seen it happen right here in Scranton.
Kids come in nervous. They leave as bandmates, leaders, and changemakers.

Why It Matters for Scranton

Scranton Girls Rock isn’t just about kids learning guitar. It’s about building a more inclusive, empowered Scranton—one where:

  • Girls lead with confidence

  • Gender-diverse youth feel safe and valued

  • Women support each other across generations

  • Artists, educators, parents, and neighbors come together to lift each other up

We’re shaping the next generation of musicians, teachers, innovators, and community leaders—by centering those who’ve often been pushed to the margins.

And when we do that, the whole city gets stronger.

What About Men?

(And Why This Work Benefits You, Too.)

Yes—there’s a place for men here. In fact, we need you.

Scranton Girls Rock centers girls, women, and gender-diverse youth—but we welcome men who want to be part of building a better, more compassionate future.

Here’s how men contribute:

  • Volunteering behind the scenes (load-in, tech, food, safety)

  • Donating gear, time, or funds

  • Modeling respectful allyship

  • Supporting youth and women-led spaces with humility and consistency

And here’s what men gain:

  • 🧠 Greater emotional intelligence and communication skills

  • 💬 Deeper personal relationships with family, students, and peers

  • 🧩 Stronger sense of purpose and belonging in their community

  • 🗣️ More effective, empathetic leadership skills (backed by research from VolunteerMatch, Harvard’s Making Caring Common, and Forbes Leadership Reports)

When men show up—not to take the mic, but to hold the space—they help transform lives, including their own.

Why People Show Up

  • Parents love watching their kids grow more confident and expressive.

  • Volunteers say it’s one of the most meaningful things they’ve ever been part of.

  • Donors see real, lasting impact right here in Scranton.

  • Artists, educators, and neighbors find connection, joy, and purpose in building something bigger than themselves.

Where You Come In
