MUSIC
We believe music is a powerful tool for personal growth and societal transformation. It creates a platform for self-expression, collaboration, and bold creativity that can inspire change and connection.
Understanding the barriers that limit access to music education for underrepresented communities, we are committed to creating spaces where Scranton youth can learn, create, and thrive through music. Our programs emphasize diversity and inclusion, elevating leaders who reflect the identities of our participants, including people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with disabilities.
EMPOWERING YOUTH
Youth voices are essential in shaping the future. We reject traditional models that view young people as passive recipients of help and instead embrace their potential as active contributors and decision-makers.
We provide opportunities for youth to lead and create, investing in their ideas, energy, and talent to ensure they play a central role in our work and vision.
COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
“Working together is transformative.”
We are dedicated to cultivating a culture of empathy, mutual support, and shared leadership. Instead of fostering competition or hierarchy, we promote dialogue, respect, and collective action. By embracing diverse perspectives, we aim to build a community that reflects the equitable and connected world we envision.
ADVOCACY FOR CHANGE
“Our liberation is interconnected.”
We recognize that the challenges we address—racism, sexism, ableism, economic inequity, and more—are deeply rooted in systems of oppression. As a community united by music, we commit to using our platform to envision and work toward a more just world.
By aligning with movements for social justice, we aim to ensure that our work contributes meaningfully to broader efforts for equity and freedom.
SUSTAINABILITY
We believe in the value of our mission, and we know that sustainable impact requires balance. By prioritizing care—for ourselves and one another—we foster a community that supports long-term well-being and prevents burnout.
We regularly reassess how we operate to ensure our efforts are equitable, our connections are meaningful, and our collaboration remains joyful.
GENDER EQUITY
We believe every person deserves the freedom to define their identity and expression. By challenging gender stereotypes, patriarchy, and heteronormativity, we create a space where all voices are celebrated.
Our programs uplift individuals across the gender spectrum, with a focus on empowering those who have faced marginalization based on their identity or gender.
LOCAL CONNECTION
Scranton Girls Rock Camp operates on the traditional lands of the Lenape People, and we honor the history and resilience of Indigenous communities. Our work is deeply rooted in the unique culture and stories of Scranton, aiming to strengthen ties within our local community.
We are committed to partnering with local organizations, supporting small businesses, and ensuring our work aligns with the values and priorities of the people we serve.
COLLECTIVE SPIRIT
Scranton Girls Rock Camp is a space for growth, courage, and joy. We celebrate the process of learning and creating, encouraging our community to embrace challenges and express themselves without fear.
By fostering kindness, curiosity, and connection, we create an environment where mistakes are stepping stones to growth and vulnerability becomes a source of strength. Together, we embrace the magic of community and creativity, lighting the path for transformation.
Together, we rock. Together, we rise.
